Toyota Group, record 2022 in Italy 95 thousand units and 7% share

Despite a contraction of about 10% of the car market in 2022 compared to the previous year, closing with just over 1 million and 300 thousand registrations, the Toyota Group continues its growth in volumes and share, setting new records in Italy. The two Toyota and Lexus brands achieved a total of over 95,000 registrations, reaching a market share of more than 7%, the highest value ever achieved by the Japanese group in Italy.
A result that was achieved – reads the note – thanks to the wide and renewed offer of Toyota and Lexus electrified products, to the innovative financing, rental, insurance and connectivity solutions proposed by the Group and highly appreciated by customers, such as for example the programs of the Wehybrid world.
“2022 was an extraordinary year for us – commented Luigi Ksawery Luca’, CEO of Toyota Motor Italia – I thank all the customers, who have chosen us and trusted us, the Toyota and Lexus dealerships and the team of companies in the Toyota Group in Italy for the fantastic work they have done.” “2023 will be a year full of innovations, during which we will strengthen our multi-technology approach, to provide all people with the best mobility solution, leaving no one behind”.
“We will introduce – concludes Luca’ – extraordinary electric cars such as the new Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ, and we will continue to develop our full hybrid technology, now in its fifth generation and the core of our offer, the most immediate solution to reduce emissions, the most accessible and easily usable by all people”.
In detail, the Toyota brand with over 92,000 registrations confirmed for the second consecutive year in third place in the general ranking by brands with a 7% share which is the historical record in Italy, up by 1.2 percentage points compared to 2021 .
Toyota also ranks second in retail sales, with a share of more than 9%. These results – specifies the company – were achieved thanks to the decisive contribution of the Yaris family products, the continuous support of C-HR and Rav4 and the introduction of the new Corolla Cross and Aygo X. This last model in particular, a few months after its launch in April 2022, it conquered the third position in segment A at the end of the year with a share of 7.3%.
In a premium market also characterized by a contraction compared to 2021 and by a widespread limited availability of products, the Lexus brand closed the year with over 3,200 registrations, a market share of 1.4% and a rich portfolio of orders remaining to be fulfilled in 2023.
With a 100% electrified range and a mix of approximately 25% plug-in hybrid engines, Lexus is confirmed as particularly popular with private customers, a channel in which it recorded a growth of 0.3 percentage points compared to 2021. New Lexus NX made a fundamental contribution to the brand’s annual results, with around 1,600 cars registered and a 3.2% share (+0.5 percentage points compared to 2021) in its reference segment and excellent performance from the plug-in hybrid engine , which was chosen by half of the customers.
2022 ended with “exceptional growth for Kinto Italia, a new company of the Toyota Group set up just over a year ago – reiterated Mauro Caruccio, CEO of Toyota Financial Services Italia and CEO and chairman of Kinto Italia – Results that would not be been possible to achieve without the precious teamwork carried out together with our dealers in the official Toyota and Lexus network”, “Even in 2023, I am sure, we will be able to intercept the emerging mobility needs in the area, offering the market our financial solutions and even more exclusive, flexible and customizable services – concluded Caruccio – such as, for example, Kinto Flex, the short-term rental with flexible subscription, which we will introduce during the year and which will enrich the already wide range of brand mobility”.
