At dawn of the 2023 season, Remco Evenepoel (22 years old) obviously knows he is expected. After an exceptional year (Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tour of Spain, Worlds…), the Belgian prodigy must confirm by achieving great performances next year. Its main objective: Tour of Italy (6-28 May), where the runner from Soudal-Quick Step will be confronted in particular with Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) and Aleksandr Vlasov (BORA-hansgrohe). “I want to win at least one stage, anyway, preferably one of the three times. Iwould also like to win a mountain stage, so that’s already two stage wins. And then I’m aiming for a place on the podium in the general classification. You always have to be realistic and I think getting the podium in a grand tour is already a great achievement.“, explains the native of Schepdaal in the program of VTM, Your Film of the Year.

“My four goals are the Giro, the Clasica San Sebastian, the World Championships and maybe the Tour of Lombardy, which will be a bigger goal than La Doyenne, although I will try to do my best in Liège. This will be complicated in Liège-Bastogne-Liège because it’s just before the Giro and my preparation will be fixed on the Tour of Italy […] If I win one of the three, four (goals) that I will set myself, it will already be very good”confided the young rider of the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team (Soudal-Quick Step in 2023), who also took the opportunity to talk about an association he plans to set up with Gerard Bulensconsultant for the RTBF. “I have a project in which we will lend bicycles to young people in Brussels so that they can train. We will try to do training, teach them cycling and we hope that they will choose cycling over football. , for instance”he said.
