The two great Italian cities will present new and old attractions to the international public: places of history, art and culture that will host a series of unmissable events in 2023.
BERGAMO and BRESCIA, Italy, Dec. 30, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Italian Capital of Culture 2023 will be an opportunity for the two large cities of northern Italy at the center of the project, Bergamo and Bresciapresent to the whole world a territory of surprising beauty, waiting to be discovered. Squares, streets, museums and theaters will become the backdrop for spectacular events and shows: great festivals – such as the International Piano Festival, the Donizetti Festival, the Science Festival, the City of Jazz, the Festa dell’Opera – together with exciting theater performances and extensive exhibition programs in galleries and museums, just to mention Some.
“Get Out of the Bubble! Discover a City You Didn’t Expect” is the concept of the Capital 2023 communication campaign, which invites the public to explore and be surprised by the “Hidden Treasures” of Bergamo and Brescia, now coming back to life after the difficult times of the pandemic. This extraordinary project has the support of important Italian organizations: Intesa Sanpaolo and A2A as main partners, Brembo as system partner and SACBO as area partner. The Ministry of Culture and the Fondazione Cariplo are institutional partners.
This territory, an unprecedented event that combines Beauty, Art and Culture, includes places declared Heritage of humanity by unesco: the Venetian Walls of Bergamo, a spectacular and iconic circuit of more than six kilometers in length that, for more than four centuries, surrounded the Upper City, and “Brixia – Archaeological Park of Roman Brescia”, the largest Roman archaeological area in the northern Italy which, together with the monastic complex of San Salvatore – Sant Giulia, forms part of the Lombards in Italy serial UNESCO site.
Main Museums and galeries of the cities, such as the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo and the Palazzo Martinengo in Brescia, will present exhibitions and events dedicated to some of the great artists of the territory, such as Lotto, Romanino, Moretto, Ceruti, Cecco del Caravaggio.
The theaters They are also great places of culture, such as the Donizetti Theater, where the Donizetti Foundation organizes the Opera Festival of the same name; the Teatro Grande de Brescia, with its 300 years of history, where the Festa dell’Opera will be held; and two community theatres, the Teatro Sociale of Bergamo, a 19th-century architectural jewel hidden in beautiful Alta Bergamo, and the Teatro Sociale of Brescia, which are among the most important centers of culture and entertainment.
In the summer of 2023, the two cities will be linked by two new sustainable routes, along which it will be possible to discover places of cultural and artistic interest: the Bikewaya 76-kilometre cycling route, and the I walk, a pedestrian route of 120 kilometers. The Ciclovía and the Cammino will connect the two cities and offer new experiences focused on the landscape, art and history.
