That Varese had a desire for hockey has never been a mystery: the affection (never waning) for the yellow and black colors proves it and above all the extraordinary following that the new course of the Mastiffs by HCMV Varese Hockey has been collecting since the beginning of the season with the Acinque Ice Arena more and more full.
In Varese there is a desire for hockey and the company of Charles Bino And Matthew Malfatti is ready to bring great hockey to Varese. first a dreamthen the rumors followed each other until through an official statement the gialloneri declared that they had formally submitted the request. Tonight the long-awaited official announcement with the AIHG decision: the IHL Italian Cup finals will be held in Varese on the weekend between Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January 2023.
A very important (first) milestone, almost due given the restyling of the ice rink and the return of the Mastiffs to the city after two years of pilgrimage. We can already speak of success, given all that an event of this kind entails for the city, ready to take its prestige and once again to exhibit a new, beautiful and welcoming system that feels like home. It is clear that, implicitly, once a dream has come true, another one is already materializing: see the Mastiffs triumph and conquer the tricolor cockade right in Varese.
Neither easy nor obvious, but a growing team (as demonstrated by the super victory in Dobbiaco) and a fan base like that can dream big. The journey towards the final stages of the Italian Cup begins tonight. Below is the official press release.
For the first time, the Final Four of the IHL Italian Cup will be held in Lombardy and Varese is the chosen venue. The great work carried out by HCMV Varese Hockey has paid off. It was learned just a few moments ago: the AIHG council assigned the organization of the Final Four of the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 Italian Ice Hockey Cup to Varese, at the AcinqueIce Arena. On the weekend of 21 and 22 January, the four teams remaining in contention will compete for the trophy in two semi-finals (on Saturday) and in the final on Sunday.
But if one could breathe cautious optimism regarding the possibility of being assigned the 2022 edition, no one could expect a double mandate, which also involves next season. This makes it possible to work with long-term planning, involving financial and commercial partners to support an event that will bring many people to the Garden City and will have great visibility not only in the hockey world, but also at a sporting level in general. This is an event that will bring, for two years in a row, a large audience of enthusiasts, teams, athletes and media attention, allowing the local area and operators to derive maximum benefit.
Of the project, conceived, developed and presented by HCMV Varese Hockey, the intention of relaunching a world (that of hockey) was appreciated, which for over two seasons has lived, playfully, far from the city and from the facility, now renovated after almost two years of work. With a view to Milan – Cortina 2026, being able to play the Final Four of the Coppa Italia in Varese means increasing the appeal of the city and the structure.
The company from Varese has already contacted some sponsors and partners who have accepted the idea in an excellent way and have supported the application presented, now officially accepted. But we are only at the beginning as the intention is to open the doors to other entrepreneurial and artisan realities, both local and in Lombardy in general.
HCMV Varese Hockey’s objective is to bring people back to the ice rink, to bring young people closer to this sport and the results are already visible, but being able to rely on an event like the Coppa Italia for two consecutive years identifies an opportunity don’t miss out.
The entire hockey and entrepreneurial movement will also benefit, especially the Lombard one, as well as being a way to give prestige to an innovative facility and to a city that is just waiting for the opportunity to meet again at the ice rink to cheer and rejoice.
The first appointment is for 21 and 22 January 2023: it is forbidden to make other commitments, other than to be present at the AcinqueIce Arena in Varese to attend the Final Four of the Italian ice hockey cup of the current season.
