The Vice President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Aitana Moremade an official visit yesterday to the Porcelanosa Grupo headquarters, in Vila-real, to see one of the leading companies in the ceramic sector.

After a private visit to the factory facilities, the representative of the Generalitat valued as “insufficient” the aid approved by the Executive of Pedro Sánchez.

«We would have liked those 900 million euros that have been divided into two lots, in aid and in ICO credits, would have been intended only for the ceramic sector and not for all gas intensive companies».

The public representative, from Compromís, assured the media that the Generalitat Valenciana was committed to “A model more similar to the Italian in terms of aid” and recalled the “specific weight” that the transalpine country has as a direct competitor of Spanish production in all markets.

Despite everything, the vice president “we must wait to read the fine print” of the aid to “analyze the magnitude” that it may have in the sector but “we would like them to be forceful to help a sector that is having a very bad time».

THE ECONOMY COUNSELOR ALERTS THE RELOCALIZATION OF PRODUCTION

Aitana Mas pointed out that the sector has informed them that the main obstacle they are facing is «the increase of up to 15% in the cost of production because of the price of energy” and “it is a fact that worries the Consell a lot because we want companies that are linked to energy consumption to have aid at the height”.

The vice president considers that “it is a national competition and, as such, it should be the Government that promotes them because they are precise aids».

For his part, the Minister of Economy, Raphael Climentwarned that «it is about some important help by amount but it should have been allocated only for ceramics” since “we think that in the end they will not be direct aid”. The minister warned that “the sector has always asked the Generalitat to let’s act as a ‘looby’ in Spain and in Europe and that is what we have been doing since the autonomous administration ».

Despite the efforts made “both by Ximo Puig as by the Valencian Government”, in Climent’s opinion, “it seems that the Government of Spain has not just reacted” since “We estimate that the sector needs 1,500 million euros” but “now we find ourselves with 950 to distribute to all companies”.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL BELIEVES THAT THE AID IS “GOOD NEWS”

In addition, the minister warned that “this type of situation can lead to relocation of companies». “I have the utmost confidence in the Valencian business sector, but it is true that a serious employment problem can be created.”

The greatest support to date for Sánchez’s announcement came from Jose Marti, president of the Diputación, who considered that it was “good news”. In his opinion, “it is fair to recognize that the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezwas not only sensitive when receiving the representatives of our industry, but also, he has kept his word given because, as he transmitted after that meeting, important measures have been approved to alleviate the situation generated due to energy costs» Martí appreciated the importance of the effort made by the central government.

PORCELANOSA, A ROLE MODEL FOR AITANA MAS

The vice president of the Generalitat, Aitana Mas, warned yesterday during her visit that the company Porcelanosa has “state-of-the-art” facilities in which “the circular economy is very present, the reuse of materials such as water, including the entire reuse cycle that makes production more effective and efficient and, at the same time, more environmentally friendly, for what it’s an example to follow».

The representative of the Valencian Government highlighted that on her first visit to the facilities she had been “impressed” to see the value of the firm and your commitment to the environment. For his part, Minister Rafael Climent highlighted aspects such as digitization, internationalization, sustainability and innovation as some of the characteristics that make Porcelanosa a paradigm in the tile industry in Castellón.

Climent defended public-private collaboration for the development of the sector and has confirmed the Consell’s commitment to continuous dialogue to address different problems. «We have helped the sector through loans and we will continue betting within our possibilities.

It should be noted that the company Porcelanosa is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its history with several acts, among them, focused on the town of Vila-real.
