PADUA – It was March 2021 when the Municipality announced the maxi regeneration plan for Arcella. New squares and cultural centers were the fulcrum but there was also talk of redevelopment of public housing, cycle paths, improvement of access to schools. The focal point of this itinerary was Piazza Azzurri d’Italia, which should have become the place of attraction for the entire district both for the total rearrangement of the place and for its connection with the former Valli area in front of the church of S. Carlo. A plan that came to life thanks to the 15 million that arrived from the Pnrr thanks to the proposals, perfected after the purchases of the former Coni headquarters, part of the Configliachi and Valli area.
Well here are the first images of the new Piazza Azzurri d’Italia in Arcella. “In the coming days we will propose others with different solutions, because we want to reach the final project through dialogue and the participation of citizens” says the councilor Andrea Micalizzi who has the specific delegation on these projects.
“In this way we will arrive at the executive planning in a short time both because we want to be concrete, but also because we have to respect the times of the Pnrr, so as to send the works to tender already at the beginning of next year”.
«The project of piazza Azzurri, for which a loan of 500 thousand euros is foreseen – continues Micalizzi – is one of the pieces of the great redevelopment project of the Arcella district which connects with the new green square in the former Valli area right in front of piazza Azzurri where work will start as early as January, the construction of a large cultural center in place of the former Coni building, the redevelopment of the Configliachi building, as well as all the investments for cycle paths, safety for schools and improvement of the buildings public residential construction, for a total of 15 million euros entirely financed by the State with the Pnrr call for the Quality of Abitare Pinqua».
The great redevelopment and revitalization project of the Arcella therefore takes shape and from now on also becomes a reality.
«Piazza Azzurri will be the heart of the district, which aspires to be a point of reference for the whole city. From square to square, space for socializing, meeting people and functions such as sport, the market and culture. For this reason, the project will have to provide for the improvement and strengthening of the pedestrian and meeting areas, as well as the use of draining surfaces, the improvement of the greenery, which is more usable and inserted in the context and activities of the square. It will be the square of the new Du30 Cultural Center, of the market with its support services, and we want to strengthen the sporting connotation both to enhance the beautiful facilities we have there, but also to underline the great merits of sport and the Paduan sports movement that have brought to our city not only many successes, goals and medals, but they have permeated our community with the values that sport brings with it. This is why the great reference to the Olympic rings which will not only be an aesthetic element, but an installation on which people can sit or play».
«This project is fully part of the relaunch program for the whole city: a Padua that sees its development in the development of its neighborhoods, creating quality and new important centralities that become a social and economic engine that brings positive values to our community, wealth and quality of the environment» continues the commissioner.
«Arcella is increasingly characterized by a cultural ferment that needs spaces and opportunities that we must imagine, but above all create, as instead at the Stanga, to make another example of development of the neighborhoods, the new Police Headquarters and the future Hospital characterize the entire east quadrant with a vocation for services of excellence and work innovation».
