Forza Italia: split and race to the Center, the challenge of the Campania parliamentarians starts

The road to the construction of a moderate pole is uphill but on the other hand the space of the center is very crowded, at least in words, like a bus at rush hour. From Carlo Calenda to Matteo Renzi, from Giovanni Toti passing through Luigi Di Maio up to the now former force troops who all aspire to represent the “Draghi agenda”. Agenda that also wants to bring forward the Pd enchanted, in these hours, by the majority sirens (but everything will be clearer in the national direction on Tuesday where the agenda is the topic of politics and candidacies) but which never brought him luck to politics. Finally, still remaining on the centrist theme, we certainly cannot overshadow, especially in Campania, the party of Clemente Mastella. And it is no coincidence that Ceppaloni’s leader leaves early and tomorrow in Naples he will present the logo and program for the 25 September policies. “No to the strategy of Buridan’s ass, no to alliances with Brutus and his stepbrothers, yes to intelligent alliances”, says the former Minister of Justice, theorist of an alliance against the right that goes from Di Maio to Renzi until to Carfagna.

Meanwhile, the biggest unknown factor is that of the now ex-forceists. Let’s talk about the group that recognizes itself in the minister Mara Carfagna now ready for the official farewell from Forza Italia. “On the other hand – says a blue parliamentarian linked to the minister – what hope can we have in a party that half an hour before the closing of the lists would put us in position or in some college definitely lost?”. Already. However, the problem remains of finding a solution within 48 hours, no more, to immediately dive into a last minute electoral campaign. Impossible to organize a new political formation in such a short time, all that remains is to close a good hospitality agreement. Almost certainly with the leader of Action Carlo Calenda with whom he has already formalized the minister Mariastella Gelmini. Hospitality that would be guaranteed to the Salerno policy and those very close to her as the outgoing parliamentarians Gigi Casciello and Paolo Russo, that after six terms he could also decide not to reapply. On the other hand, the Salerno deputy is not part of this game Marzia Ferraioli, remained loyal to Berlusconi, so much so that two days ago he wrote a communiqué of praise to the Knight. They remain for now in Forza Italia and close to the regional blue coordinator Mimmo De Siano the outgoing Antonio Pentangelo and Carlo Sarro. “But until when?” Asks someone in the party that here in Naples once saw its strongest of votes. Instead, he remains with Berlusconi’s party Michela Rostan just married with the Azzurri after a long circumnavigation between the parties (Pd, Articolo Uno and Italia Viva). Very courted, always by the central parties (all), the former leader of the Fi group in the Region Armando Cesaro who has a large patrol of mayors and administrators on his side and after the pit stop at the last regional is eager to get back on track (his father Luigi has not been a candidate for Parliament since 1996). Which is the same thing as everyone else.

Because in the first and shortest summer election campaign in republican history the only certainty remains them, the mayors. Because they are more rooted in the territory and with electoral machines already oiled and ready for use. Many, in particular those of the center-right and Forza Italia, are waiting to understand how their respective leaders or reference ras will move. Carfagna and Cesaro in particular. And then from that moment onwards to move and attempt the climb in Rome. On the other hand, the two offices are indeed incompatible but do not have the character of ineligibility: they therefore have all the time to resign from the seats of mayor or possibly stay where they are, leaving the post as a member of parliament. But they contributed to the cause. And it could be the case of the mayor of Trecase Raffaele De Luca or the colleague from Casalnuovo Massimo Pelliccia or Raffaele Lettieri, former mayor of Acerra who has always been close to Forza Italia, who has just left his seat because he cannot be reappointed after two terms (he has only been a city councilor for a few weeks).
