The art installations reflect elements of each artist’s country of origin, combined with aspects of the rich local cultural heritage, demonstrating the role that football can play in bringing cultures from all over the planet together.
There is also Italy
The Italian football goal was inserted in the context of the Katara Cultural Village, between the glittering financial district of West Bay and the crescent towers of The Pearl district, a favorite destination in Doha for art, culture and gastronomy. The work of art, made by Ale Giorgini, is located near the Katara Amphitheater, a classical Greek-style building with Islamic influences overlooking the sea. The artist’s idea was born from the similarities he found between the Katara Amphitheater in Doha and the Colosseum in Rome. Giorgini realized how much Qatar and Italy have in common: a shared love for art, innovative architecture and a warm temperament that places friends and family at the center. This then led to a creative concept that combines the landmarks of Italy with contemporaries from Qatar.
Ale Giorginithe author of the Italian door project, described his work as follows: “From my point of view, football builds bridges between the people and cultures of the world. Seeing my door positioned at the Katara Cultural Village makes me happy : this is where friends come together to create new memories. Furthermore, it is located near the Katara Amphitheater, whose harmony recalls that of the Colosseum in Rome to the point that it leads me to think of other Italian and Qatari monuments with the same surprising symmetry . The core of my creation is football, of course, because the joy generated by this game is a gift that can be shared by all. “
